Yod | י

Yod represents the energy of action.

Yod is the energy of humility which has the potential for greatness. Although the iud (or iod) is the smallest Hebrew letter, it concentrates an enormous power of energetic manifestation, from it exists everything that exists. According to Rabbi Guinzburg, the iud represents "the concentration of the infinite within the finite".

The tetragram begins with a letter iud: it implies that the divine name begins with the smallest letter, it is the letter that marks all future potential.

The universe began, then, at a very small point, an iud. This letter was the first point from which all that has manifested began. The number of the iud is ten and, in spite of being a small point, within it we find the ten sefirot.

We say, then, that the energy of true humility is the greatness that it generates as a consequence. The energy of our greatness (gadlut) is based on our true awareness of finitude ("I am dust and ashes"), but also on the greatness of not lowering ourselves. For every person must know that he possesses the strength to rise from the dust to heaven and claim that his work transcends into the future.

Every subject is part of heaven here on earth, but he must also possess the greatness to consider himself dust. Humility is acquired with the awareness of our material finitude, and greatness with our participation in the infinite energy that transcends all.

Dust returns to dust. The greatness of what one is, is what one leaves for the future and we must always be aware that every little energy we develop in this reality connects us with all future potential. The iud teaches us that despite being the smallest, it is actually the energy that has the greatest potential. The force does not depend on the extension, but on the energy that we potentially possess. For this reason, the iud represents the concentration of our energy in one point, without this concentration of energy we cannot carry out any type of expansion. The stronger our energetic strength is concentrated in the iud, the greater the possibilities of expansion we will have in the future.

Netzach-Tiferet
Artistic revelation (music, all kinds of art, dance, embraces, kisses, bodily communications of all kinds) allow the "I" to express itself symbolically. Symbols materialize in Netzach. In this sense, the symbols of Netzach operate as the language of Hod, informing the "I" of its own hidden psychic contents. Netzach reveals at a higher level of expansion than Hod, but is more difficult to interpret because its elements, being more expansive, tend to confuse in their usefulness. The symbols have a greater power than Hod in the sense that they operate in another time/space sequence. In a symbol of revelation, past, present and future can be blended. But it is always information that the "I" must accept in order to grow.

Tiferet-Netzach
The "I" is revealed in Netzach. Love must be expressed. In Netzach, the "I" not only communicates with itself, but also communicates with others. By externalizing the contents of the "I", Netzach can create "symbolic anchors" that allow the "I" to ex- pand itself, to transcend itself. The "I" brings down its energy towards outer revelation. So also the "I" can empty itself, so that it then increases the emptiness of the Tiferet in order to rise into the abyss and operate within it. The revelation of the soul in Netzach is fundamental to emptying the interior of the Tiferet. If the soul is trained in its constant emptying process, it will be enabled to rise to the tehom ('abyss').
